Painful Sex and Urinary Leaking

I had never heard of a pelvic floor physical therapist until I was referred to Lauren. She made a somewhat awkward exam into a session that was relaxed and non-threatening. I was comfortable talking with her about my problems related to pain with penetration and urinary leakage, and she showed me exercises and recommended aids that have been extremely helpful. We could both see steady progress as I saw her over several months. I would strongly recommend her and her services!

Post Prostatectomy Urinary Incontinence

After the catheter was removed after my prostatectomy, I was simply told by a nurse to engage my pelvic floor muscles for 10-20 seconds, release for 10-20 seconds, and repeat for 3-4 minutes about 4 times a day.

About a month or two after my surgery, I began to wonder how my recovery was progressing; I was still leaking, had urge control issues, and had doubts about the effectiveness of my exercises. Lauren helped me understand what was really going on with my recovery, and what results I could expect. Her knowledge and experience gave me a completely new level of understanding about the immediate effects of my procedure, and how I could affect my own long term prospects. She was equally open and honest about what the medical community understood, and what was still unknown with post prostatectomy recovery.

I should point out that my particular recovery has gone extremely well, due in part to my pre-existing physical condition, young age, and my high motivation to resume a normal life free of inconvenience from my surgery. I should also add that my surgeon, performed at the highest possible level, leaving me with the best chance for a full recovery without complications. However, without the help and guidance from an experienced physical therapist, most men will be lost, with much less chance for a complete recovery.

I truly wish that all prostatectomy patients could have an appointment with Lauren BEFORE their surgery to better understand what is up ahead, followed by more appointments AFTER their surgery to lean on her expertise in designing the right path for their unique recovery needs.

Pain with sex

"Before meeting with Lauren, I was having trouble finding the courage and the ability to face the issues I was experiencing with intercourse. But through our appointments, I was given an incredibly supportive setting to work through my issues, both mentally and physically. She was able to provide a safe space, that I was entirely lacking in my life. Her care helped me realize that I can be strong and overcome the problems I was facing. Thanks to her, my husband and I are taking steps to try to expand our family. I am so grateful for her help and I am not sure I could have gotten to this point without her."
